"Japanese horror movies are just great right now, Ringu, Ringu 2, Dark Water, Audition, Ju-On. Just genius. Not many movies make me turn my head away, but Audition certainly did." |

Audition is astonishing and it's been a while since I've seen it. I think, at heart, it's a tale of how women are turned into commodities by men - seen as objects rather than people. The director's message is (I think) that us guys should watch out - girls can be mysterious and vicious too.
It's not a film that's just about blood and gore, although there is some. There's a much deeper level to it too. Never mind downloading it - it's a classic - go and buy the damn thing on DVD... lmao |

Most of the Japanese horror films out there were made to critic the Japanese society. One example is Suicide Club. I don't want to give away the story here since maybe a lot in the forum haven't seen it but the film is an attack on Japan's obsession with pop idols among other things. |

I'm still blown away by Visitor Q, though I fear that my friends can't understand my giggles when I show it to them. Maybe they just need to be hit in the head with a brick. (Hopefully you've seen the movie and understand that last sentence) I've come to the conclusion that Miike is a total satirist. His movies are disturbing, but damned sharp and funny.
As for Suicide Club, another favorite, there again I appreciated the dark humor at it's heart, much less heavy-handed than say, Blue Spring. |
